Blogging Fair Trade

Hello and welcome to Blogging Fair Trade. Here I will share my musings on fair trade, ethical business and all that this entails.

First, let me tell you a bit about myself:

I have been interested in ethical issues for as long as I can remember. My philosophy degree made me think long and hard about what I believe in and helped me to shape my own personal ethics. Fair trade is a movement that has been constantly gaining ground since it was first established and it has been gaining importance in my own life in a similar way.

In the summer of 2009 I made the first big step to making a real difference to the lives of small-scale producers in Indonesia. Together with my partner, who originates from Indonesia, I set up By Hand. With By Hand – which sells fair trade jewellery, as well as fair trade and eco-friendly bags, and batik silk scarves – we hope to show that businesses can be run ethically; that they can benefit everyone in the supply chain, from the independent producers right through to the consumers.

I am not an expert and I still have a lot to learn. Ideally Blogging Fair Trade will be a journey that will push me to learn more about the wonderful world of fair trade, and to discuss the issues with other people who share my passion.

I hope that Blogging Fair Trade will be a success. And by that I mean that it will inspire a few others to “go fair trade” and help to make a difference.
