Exploring the Scenic Cities of North India: Trip to Dalhousie and Dharamshala

Himachal Pradesh is that one state in entire India which lies in the lap of the foothills of the Himalayas and offers some of the most panoramic cities in the country. If you want to know what the hills are like and what it is like to explore a night under the stars in the hills, then there is no better option than Himachal Pradesh.

Himachal Pradesh is a state that is best toured for about two weeks or so. Well if you are indeed planning a tour of this state and want to know what beauty in the city life means, then you have to visit Dalhousie and Dharamshala. Location: It is located in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh and lies at an elevation of about 2000m above sea level. Lush green meadows and a lovely weather are the main reasons why people love to visit and stay in this hill station. In fact plenty of international tourists come and stay here for more than a year, enjoying the retreat that these hills are most famous for.

What to visit: A simple walk through the lanes and alleys of Dalhousie will refresh your tired mind. There is no dearth of good places to stay here and hence accommodation is never a problem here. This was one of the most popular summer retreats of the British, and hence, mansions from the colonial era still line the streets of this hill station. This place is particularly known for the various houses with sloping roofs. In fact there is a place called Khajjiar which is known as the mini Switzerland because of the meadows and the little and colourful houses that are located here. You can also visit the Satdhara Falls and Panch Pula. The Panch Pula is a very nice place if you are interesting in trekking in the mountains. All in all, Dalhousie is a very nice place to spend a few days at.

Dharmshala is about 120kms away from Dalhousie, and it will take around 4 hours or so to reach this place.


Location: Located near Mant Khas and Ruhru, Dharmshala is particularly known for a centre of being Buddhist learning and practises.

What to visit: The Dalai Lama of Tibet had first come and settled down here and hence it is but natural that monasteries form the star attraction of this place. Apart from the monasteries, you can also visit the Jwalamukhi temple. Hindus from all over the world come to visit this place since it is believed to be one of holiest places of worship of this religion. The Goddess worshipped in the temple is basically formless and the heat evolving from the centre of the earth is what people pray to! Do visit the war memorial here during your trip.

Both Dharamshala and Dalhousie are star attractions of Himachal Pradesh. So, when you plan a trip to this state, do not miss out on these two places.
